Battlestar Galactica Vehicles
All the vehicles shot out little projectiles that were small enough for kids to choke on. The toys were taken off the shelf and later reissued with the projectiles glued on.
Disney Princess Racing Trike
A pointy castle to the face came with this trike free of charge.
Morrison's Soft Blocks
I shouldn't have to explain why these were taken off the shelves.
Buckyballs
A bunch of magnetic balls that you could put together to make shapes doesn't seem so bad. The problem is of course that they were really small balls that could be swallowed easily. The Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the toys when they discovered just how dangerous swallowing the balls could be. According to an American Academy of Pediatrics report, if swallowed individually, Buckyballs could possibly reattach somewhere in your intestines, damaging tissue to the point where surgery would be required.
Sky Dancers
Pull a cord and watch one of these winged figures slap a kid across the face at a high rate of speed. A lot of eye injures caused Hasbro to pull the line off the shelves.
Snacktime Cabbage Patch Kids
Built with a motorized mouth so kids could feed the doll plastic food. The motor was strong enough to pull the hair off of kids heads if it got stuck in the mouth. More than 500,000 were recalled within a year of its release.
Lawn Darts
Just a reason to throw giant darts at each other.
Aqua Dots
Tiny beads that you could put together and use in arts and crafts projects. They can be arranged into designs and fused when sprayed with water.
Hazard: The coating on the beads that causes the beads to stick to each other when water is added contains a chemical that can turn toxic when many are ingested. Children who swallow the beads can become comatose, develop respiratory depression, or have seizures. The chemical that turns toxic is gamma hydroxy butyrate(GHB), or better known as the date-rape drug.
Yo Yo Waterball
The Yo-Yo Water ball is made of flammable diesel hydrocarbons and the stretchy, sticky cord can wrap around a child's neck, causing strangulation. This toy was only out a handful of months before it was pulled.
Penguin Toy Ball
A fun little ball with soft smooth parts. No edges and nothing to choke on. The problem was that the penguin was attached to the ball with nails and the toy was easy to take apart. The geniuses at Plan Toys had to recall 300,000 units.
